Last year I traveled to Norway to meet with my friends and colleagues at Med-Eq, AS, one of Scandinavia's most innovative supplement developers. They were eager to share their success with a new weight-loss formula called 30 days™. After reviewing the theories behind the product and evaluating the ingredients, I knew we had to bring it to the U.S. 30 days offers a new approach to dietary weight-loss support. Here Dr. Roald Strand, who has been using the formula in his Oslo clinic, explains why 30 days is different and how it can work for you. Dr. Strand has been practicing medicine for over 20 years as a family physician specializing in environmental and nutritional therapies. His holistic health center includes M.D.s, a homeopath, an acupuncturist, a chiropractor, a massage therapist and a nutritionist. Their goal is to combine mainstream care with the best of alternative or complementary medicine, and they treat upwards of 12,000 patients each year.
SWANSON: Dr. Strand, 30 days™ addresses weight loss in a
completely new way. Can you explain this new approach?
SWANSON'S ULTRA
30 DAY DIET FORMULA 24.99 |
STRAND: Certainly. There's sort of a sea change taking place among obesity researchers around the world. Until recently the prevailing theory of the cause of obesity has been the "calories in-calories out" theory—overeating combined with lack of exercise creates a positive calorie load leading to weight gain. And while that may be true in many cases, it is not the complete answer. New research suggests that our environment and the makeup of our foods may be equally, if not more important than total calorie load. There's also evidence that the microbial population of the intestines differ from slim to overweight individuals. For instance, researchers in Colorado performed a study in both mice and humans, showing that the amount of anaerobic bacteria from the Firmicute family was higher in overweight subjects. When these subjects lost weight, the amount of Firmicutes also fell. A large content of this bacteria group leads to the absorption of more calories in the intestine in both mice and humans. In addition, it became clear that when this type of bacteria is transferred from overweight to slim mice, the slim mice put on weight. Research in this area (the theory is called "infectobesity") suggests that there is a connection between the composition of the microbial population
SWANSON: That's certainly a new perspective. How does 30 days work to address this?
STRAND: 30 days contains DTox,™ a unique extract blend developed by Med-Eq Gaiapharma. DTox contains herbs that have a cleansing and strengthening effect on the digestive organs in the body and that stimulate the body's ability to rid itself of harmful waste products. 30 days also contains different glucopolysaccharides (Beta Glucans), which are known to activate and support our natural immune system. Studies clearly indicate that the different ingredients in 30 days also stimulate a protein that increases metabolism. This protein is found in the belly fat, and that is why 30 days seems to be especially effective on large stomachs. The combination of 30 days, physical activity and a healthy diet with modest intake of sugar and starch helps you keep the belly fat away.

SWANSON: We hear a lot about the role stress plays in weight gain. Does 30 days address this aspect of the issue as well?
STRAND: It's very clear that stress can contribute to weight gain. Researchers think that the appetite hormone Y (NPY) may be to blame. Studies show that repeated stress combined with a diet high in sugar increases the secretion of this appetite hormone. According to researchers at Georgetown University, this results in an increase of the undesired belly fat in the stomach region. Several studies have demonstrated that the daily dosage of glucopolysaccharides found in 30 days reduces the stress level in the body by up to 50 percent. The most important reason for the good results is its exceptional ability to clean the stomach, intestine, kidneys and liver. In addition, a heavy boost to the immune system will lead to a reduction of fat, mucous and fluids in the dermis in the area around the stomach.
SWANSON: I understand a colleague of yours in Norway completed a pilot study on 30 days. What were the results?
STRAND: That's right; Med-Eq commissioned a study with about 30 middle-aged women. The study was placebo-controlled and lasted exactly 30 days. The results are nothing short of remarkable. Just take a look at the graphs and it's clear that this new approach is a real breakthrough.
